The “2017 International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology” co-sponsored by the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences and Beijing Institute of Technology was successfully held at Xijiao Hotel in Beijing on September 20-22, 2017. The conference was organized by the State Key Laboratory of Explosive Science and Technology (Beijing Institute of Technology) and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Security and Protection. The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Wang Bo from Beijing Institute of Technology. Academic Co-Chairs Academician Jiang Guibin and the Prof. Dionysios D. Dionysiou of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Ecological Research Center and Deputy Secretary-General Hou Xuesong of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences addressed the opening ceremony.

Also present at the meeting included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Prof. Feng Changgen from Beijing Institute of Technology, Academician He Kebin, Professor Jorge GARDEA-TORRESDEY (Deputy Editor of Environmental Science and Technology), Professor T. David WAITE (Associate Editor of Environmental Science and Technology), Professor Virender Sharma, Prof. Renyi Zhang, Prof. Andy Cundy, Prof. Hyunook KIM, Prof. Lingxue Kong, Prof. Weiping Pan, Professor Li Xiaoyan (Hong Kong, China), Prof. Deng Zongxi (Taiwan, China), Prof. Ma Jun, Prof. Yan Bing, Prof. Pan Bicai, Prof. Zhu Dongqiang, Prof. Zhu Lingyan Prof. Quan Quan, Prof. Chen Jianmin, Prof. Zhu Xi, Prof. Jing Li Qiang, Prof. Lin Lin, Prof. Liu Jingfu, Prof. Wang Chuanyi, Prof. Yan Keping and other famous scholars at home and abroad. There were 120 delegates from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, South Korea, Turkey, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions.

During the academic exchanges, 11 internationally renowned experts made keynote academic reports at the conference, 30 experts made invited reports on the conference venues, and 20 representatives made oral reports. Academician He Kebin and several other experts made a scientific interpretation of the causes of smog in China and gave proposed solutions. Other experts reported and discussed hot issues in the environmental field such as water pollution control, soil remediation, environmental chemistry, environmental toxicology, environmental testing, and environmental assessment.

The conference was a high-level and successful conference. Experts at the meeting gave a high evaluation. It further promoted the development of environmental science and technology in China and expanded academic exchanges between scholars at home and abroad. The “International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology” is a series of international academic conferences. The first five sessions were held in 2007 (Beijing), 2009 (Shanghai), 2011 (Dongguan), 2013 (Dalian) and 2015 (Chongqing).
