From October 17 to 19, 2016, the 2016 International Symposium on Safety Science and Technology was successfully held in Kunming University of Science and Technology. The opening ceremony of the symposium was presided by the dean of the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology. Member of the NPC Standing Committee, former vice president of China Association for Science and Technology, professor of Beijing Institute of Technology Feng Changgen, president of Kunming University of Science and Technology Peng Jinhui attended and addressed the opening ceremony. President of Anyang Institute of Technology Jing Guoxun, deputy secretary of the Production Safety Supervision and Administration Department of Yunnan Province Tang Zhongming also attended the symposium. Nearly 140 scholars and experts from 12 countries including the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Canada, Korea, and Japan attended this symposium.

　　2016 International Symposium on Safety Science and Technology is co-hosted by Beijing Institute of Technology, the China Occupational Safety and Health Association, the China Association for Public Safety, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Tech University and Nanjing University of Science and Technology; is undertaken by Kunming University of Science and Technology, State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology (Beijing Institute of Technology) and Collaborative Innovation Center of Safety and Protection. Symposium proceedings accepted 141 papers from 13 countries and regions.

　　During the symposium, 11 national and international experts in the field of Safety Science and Technology delivered reports at the symposium, including academician of Poland Piotr WOLA?SKI, editor-in-chief of Process Safety Progress, professor Ronald Willey, professor of University of Warwick Jennifer WEN, professor of City University of Hong Kong Richard Kwok Kit YUEN, professors of Beijing Institute of Technology Wang Cheng and Qian Xinming. Apart from that, 70 representatives delivered venue reports, discussing extensively many research fields including Security Theory, Safety Management, Safety Evaluation and Risk Assessment, Fire Safety, Process Safety, Fire and Explosion Protection, and exchanging latest achievements in the field of Safety Science and Technology.

　　International Symposium on Safety Science and Technology is held every two years, which has been successfully held for 9 times. The symposium has wide and significant influence in and outside China. This symposium has gained positive repercussions among professors and young scholars from Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology of China, Central South University, China University of Mining and Technology, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Tech University, etc. This is bound to promote the international communication and cooperation in the field of Safety Science and Technology, and push forward China’s development of Safety Science and Technology.
